Hij zette investeringen van klanten op een escrow rekening, maar ze kregen er nooit Bitcoin voor terug. Dat maakt de rechtbank van New York vandaag bekend in een persbericht.<\/h4>\n<div id=\"bitco-2049651144\" class=\"bitco-in-artikel-3\"><\/div>\n<p>Een escrow-rekening is een (geblokkeerde) bankrekening die in beheer is van een onafhankelijke derde. Die fungeert als tussenpersoon tussen koper en verkoper.<\/p>\n<p>Thompson (49) heeft als directeur <span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"nl\">Volantis Escrow Platform LLC en Volantis Market Making LLC, daar misbruik van gemaakt. Hij stuurde namelijk direct de investering door naar de verkopende partij zonder eerst Bitcoin te ontvangen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"nl\">Dit heeft in de maanden juni en juli 2018 plaatsgevonden, waarna Thompson \u00e9\u00e9n jaar later is gearresteerd.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"tlid-translation translation\" lang=\"nl\">Het ministerie van Justitie klaagde Thompson verdacht hem onder van financi\u00eble fraude en internetoplichting. Een bedrijf heeft 3,25 miljoen dollar op de escrow-rekening van Volantis gestort, maar daar nooit Bitcoin voor teruggezien.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Hij is schuldig bevonden aan financi\u00eble fraude, zo maakt een rechtbank in New York bekend. Mogelijk heeft hij meer slachtoffers gemaakt, maar hij wordt nu berecht door \u00e9\u00e9n zaak.<\/p>\n<p>Een bedrijf heeft 3 miljoen dollar verloren door de zwendel. Op 7 januari 2021 krijgt Thompson zijn straf te horen.
